Dust Identity Raises $40 Million

Dust Identity is an authentication startup whose innovative approach ensures that the identity of an object or device can be reliably verified, preventing counterfeiting, tampering, and unauthorized access. At the core of Dust Identity’s technology lies the idea of using microscopic diamonds as a security layer. Each diamond fragment acts as a unique identifier, creating a complex and virtually impossible-to-replicate pattern. This pattern, combined with the ability to read and authenticate it using specialized readers, forms the basis of Dust Identity’s authentication system. From supply chain and logistics to aerospace and defense, their technology can provide an unprecedented level of security and traceability.

Dust Identity has raised $40 million in a Series B round. The new round was led by led by Castle Island Ventures, with participation from Amex Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Airbus Ventures, 8VC, and others.

Dust Identity, Newton, Massachusetts, United States, was founded in 2018 by Dirk Englund, Jonathan Hodges, and Ophir Gaathon. Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Ophir Gaathon noted that Dust is making a “significant investment” in the sports sector, offering its services to sort, tag, and catalog game-worn items. Dust Identity’s groundbreaking technology has the potential to transform the way we authenticate and verify objects and devices.
