Anthropic Raises $100 Million in Funding

Anthropic is an AI safety and research company that specializes in building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. Its research interests include such areas as natural language, human feedback, scaling laws, reinforcement learning, code generation, and interpretability. Anthropic aims to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems for customers and society as a whole.

Anthropic has raised $100 million in a funding round led by SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest telecommunications company. The fresh funding will support SK Telecom’s AI-related telecommunications business, and as part of the deal, Anthropic will develop a large language model specifically designed for telcos.

Anthropic, San Francisco, California, United States, was founded by Daniela Amodei, Dario Amodei, Jack Clark, Sam McCandlish, and Tom Brown in 2021. The team’s experience spans a lot of different backgrounds and disciplines, from physics and machine learning to public policy and business. The company has made progress in mathematically reverse engineering the behavior of small language models, has developed baseline techniques to make large language models more “helpful and harmless”, and has also released an analysis of sudden changes in performance in large language models and the societal impacts of this phenomenon.
