Mistral AI Is Raising $2.3 Billion at a $14 Billion Valuation

Mistral AI is an artificial intelligence startup specializing in developing generative AI and large language models. The company focuses on creating open-source and efficient AI models. These models are designed to provide a European alternative to the dominant AI systems from the United States and China. Mistral is also developing a chatbot called “Le Chat” specifically for European users and offers other AI services for various business use cases, including code generation, advanced reasoning, and enterprise agents.

The company is reportedly closing a funding round that would raise about $2.3 billion and propel its valuation to $14 billion. This significant investment is a strong vote of confidence in the company’s rapid growth and its long-term potential in the AI industry.

Mistral AI, headquartered in Paris, Ile-de-France, France, was founded in 2023 by Arthur Mensch, Charles Gorintin, Guillaume Lample, Jean Charles Samuelian, and Timothee Lacroix. In 2023, the company joined the unicorn club. In a partnership with chipmaker Nvidia, the company is moving from being solely a model developer to a vertically integrated AI cloud provider, building next-generation AI cloud services in France.
