Runway Raises $141 Million at $1.5 Billion Valuation

Runway is a startup that’s dedicated to making generative AI accessible to everyone. The company’s platform allows users to create and train AI models that can generate new content with incredible speed and accuracy. The startup focuses on video automation and synthetic media and reduces the costs of creating visual media across creative industries. With Runway, designers, artists, and developers can quickly prototype ideas, explore new creative directions, and even build entire products.

Runway has raised $141 million in a series C round from Google, Nvidia, and Salesforce Ventures, among other investors. The latest funding round values Runway at $1.5 billion. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, said in a statement that Runway’s technology could change how artists work and tell stories. “Generative AI is transforming the content creation industry,” Huang said, and “breathing new life into stories and ideas that were not imaginable.” The company intends to use the fresh funding to “further scale in-house research efforts, expand its world-class team, and continue to bring state-of-the-art multi-modal AI systems to market, while building groundbreaking and intuitive product experiences.”

Runway, New York, United States, was founded in 2018 by Cristóbal Valenzuela, Anastasis Germanidis, and Alejandro Matamala-Ortiz, who met at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, a grad program at the intersection of technology and the arts.
