Mistral AI Raises $113 Million

Mistral is a French technology and artificial intelligence company. Mistral aims to provide businesses with the foundational technology to automate existing processes and develop innovative new products with state-of-the-art large language models.

Mistralhas raised $113 million in an initial financing round to become “a new global player” in artificial intelligence. The funding round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. Moreover, several individual investors participated in the round, including French billionaires Rodolphe Saadé and Xavier Niel, as well as former Google Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt.

Mistral, Paris, France, was founded by Timothée Lacroix, Guillaume Lample, and Arthur Mensch. The founders combine deep technical expertise and operating experience working in the largest labs. This enables them to have both the technical understanding required to build out their own vision along with the hands-on experience of training and operating large language models at scale. “We are proud to initiate this global project from France, our home country, and to contribute, at our level, to the emergence of a credible new player in generative artificial intelligence from Europe,” says Arthur Mensch, Mistral AI’s president.
