Shield AI Raises $300 Million at $2.8 Billion Valuation

Shield AI is an artificial intelligence company that makes autonomous drone technology for military applications. These systems are capable of collecting and analyzing vast amounts of data in real time, providing invaluable insights that enhance decision-making and improve operational efficiency. In August 2021, the company joined the unicorn club.

Shield AI has raised an additional $300 million in equity and debt, bringing its Series F funding to $500 million. The debt provider is Hercules Capital; the source of the additional equity isn’t disclosed. The company’s valuation has increased to $2.8 billion.

Shield AI, San Diego, California, United States, was founded in 2015 by Andrew Reiter, Brandon Tseng, and Ryan Tseng. “AI pilots are becoming a strategic conventional deterrent in class with our aircraft carriers and guided missile submarines,” said Shield CEO and co-founder Ryan Tseng. “But interestingly, it’s the first strategic deterrent that is software-defined and has only recently become possible because of advances in AI and compute power. That’s a huge paradigm shift for aerospace and defense.”
