Overview

X-energy is a pioneering American nuclear technology company founded in 2009 by entrepreneur and engineer Dr. Kam Ghaffarian. The company specializes in developing advanced small modular reactors and proprietary nuclear fuel technology to deliver safe, affordable, and carbon-free energy. X-energy’s flagship product, the Xe-100, is a Generation IV high-temperature gas-cooled pebble-bed reactor capable of producing 80 megawatts of electrical power per unit. The reactor operates using X-energy’s innovative TRISO-X fuel, which seals uranium particles in protective coating to make nuclear meltdowns impossible. With over $1.8 billion in total funding and partnerships with major corporations including Amazon, Dow, and Centrica, X-energy has secured an impressive orderbook of more than 11 gigawatts representing approximately 144 small modular reactors. The company is building North America’s first commercial TRISO-X fuel fabrication facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and has received significant support from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program.
