Boom Supersonic is an aerospace company dedicated to transforming air travel by developing the Overture, a groundbreaking commercial airliner designed for supersonic flight. The company’s mission is to make the world dramatically more accessible by offering a supersonic airliner designed to carry 60 to 80 passengers at speeds of Mach 1.7—roughly twice the speed of today’s subsonic jets—while operating on sustainable aviation fuel.
Boom Supersonic has raised $300 million in a new funding round, bringing its valuation to $1.5 billion. The round was led by Darsana Capital Partners, with participation from Altimeter Capital, ARK Invest, Bessemer Venture Partners, Robinhood Ventures, and Y Combinator. Boom Supersonic also announced a backlog of more than $1.25 billion for its Superpower turbine and revealed its launch customer, Crusoe.
Boom Supersonic, headquartered in Centennial, Colorado, United States, was founded in 2014 by Blake Scholl, Joe Wilding, and Joshua Krall. In 2020, the company joined the unicorn club. “Supersonic technology is an accelerant—of course for faster flight, but now for artificial intelligence as well,” said Blake Scholl, founder and CEO of Boom Supersonic. “With this financing and our first order for Superpower, Boom is funded to deliver both our engine and our airliner.”
