Stripe Looking to Raise $4 Billion at a Valuation of about $55 Billion

Stripe is a financial service that offers payment processing software and application programming interfaces (APIs) for internet businesses of all sizes. The company provides a payments platform that simplifies payment infrastructure complexity and also provides a suite of ancillary enablements and financial services products.

The company is reported to be in the process of raising $4 billion from investors. Stripe intends to raise the money in order to enable veteran employees to sell stock that is now restricted and so that it can pay the taxes it will incur by doing so.

Stripe, San Francisco, United States, was founded by Irish entrepreneur brothers John and Patrick Collison in 2009. In 2012 the company introduced Stripe Connect, a multiparty payments solution that lets software developers embed payments natively into their products. Currently, millions of companies of all sizes use Stripe’s software and APIs to accept payments, send payouts, issue virtual and physical cards, and manage their businesses online.
