Getir Acquires Gorillas in a $1.2 Billion Deal

Getir has acquired its competitor Gorillas which gives a combined group valuation of $10 billion. In March, Getir raised $768 million in a funding round led by Mubadala Investment company, with participation from Abu Dhabi Growth Fund (ADG), Alpha Wave Global, Sequoia Capital, and Tiger Global. “The move underlines that Getir is leading the consolidation,” the company said in a statement.

Getir, Turkey, was founded by Arkady Volozh, Mert Salur, Nazım Salur, Serkan Borançılı, Tuncay Tütek in 2015. It is an instant grocery delivery startup that besides operating in 81 Turkish cities, also has a presence in 9 countries – France, the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, and the USA. Gorillas, founded in 2020 in German, had a slogan “faster than you”, was one of several others that ran with the idea during COVID-19 lockdowns, opening offices in dozens of European cities, Amsterdam, London, Paris, and Munich; and in America, New York. As of now, the enlarged company will fight with Flink, Germany, GoPuff, the USA, and a larger meal delivery service.
