Guild Education is a developer of a platform that provides working adults with classes, programmers, and degrees. Guild Education’s mission is to unlock economic opportunity for the workforce by bridging the gap between education and employment with the help of skilling and education. For this purpose, the platform pairs employer-sponsored learning opportunities with employees needed these opportunities.
The funding round Series F was led by Wellington Management. Citi Impact Fund, an impact investing unit of big bank Citigroup, and a healthcare group Bon Secours Mercy Health also participated in the round. Another investor was Oprah Winfrey. This round would rank the company among the 10 largest edtech spaces over the year.
Guild Education, Denver, the USA, was founded by Rachel Romer Carlson in 2015. As of now, the company has more than 1500 employees, this number has increased from 400 in March 2020. With the recent funding, Guild Education may continue to meet the demand, and also expand its reach in the additional market. Over 5 million employees have access to the platform. “Just like how Vanguard in the ‘80s made it possible for an employer to do a 401(k), we’ve made it possible for companies to fund their employees’ education through a payments layer, a data layer,” Rachel Romer Carlson, CEO and founder of Guild Education. The payment model helps workers to address student loan repayment and take occupational assessments about career prospects.
