Cockroach Labs is a software company that develops CockroachDB, a cloud-native, SQL-compliant, distributed database. Specifically designed for the cloud data architecture faster scales applications on-demand with minimal costs, as well as reduce outages and handles data more efficiently.

The funding round Series F was led by Greenoaks. Also, participating investors were Altimeter, BOND, Benchmark, Coatue, FirstMark, GV, Index Ventures, J.P. Morgan, Lone Pine Capital, Redpoint Ventures, and Tiger Global. The money raised will be used for database development, consumer growth, and new market expansion.

Cockroach Labs, from the USA, was founded by Benjamin Darnell, Peter Mattis, Spencer Kimball in 2015. Previously three founders were engineers at Google and decided to launch the project after a realization that there was a lack of available sophisticated database technology in open source. As of now, the company has more than 200 customers with tens of thousands of clusters worldwide. Cockroach Labs mission is to help companies’ developers from small start-ups to big enterprises. “…to build the kind of applications that can change the world without having to worry about the constraints or cost of the database.”, says Peter Guagenti, Cockroach Labs CMO.
